How to clean a tripod and why it’s important

A man and three tripods on a desk showing how to clean a tripod easily.

How to clean a tripod

Today I walk you through how to clean a tripod from top to bottom and why you should be doing this at least twice a year, this really is vital if you want a tripod to last a good few years.

Surprisingly the pieces in your Tripod that actually keep your camera and lens in place are very delicate and fairly small.

I break down exactly how often I clean my tripods aswell as the process I use, I show you the individual locking pieces, how to take them apart and how to reassemble the tripod then also.

Having a tripod fail on you can be incredibly expensive as your camera and lens could fall to the ground from a height and get smashed. So routinely cleaning your tripod is a very necessary step that we should all be taking.

One of the things I mention in the video is not to use any grease on the tripod legs or locking nuts and the reason I say this is, if any of that grease gets on the tripod legs or locking rings then you simply won’t have any locking power for the legs then.

I much prefer to take the tripod apart every two months and clean off the threads manually, it only takes a few minutes and gives you much better results than having grease and dirt combined to grind down those fine components. If you have any questions then please feel free to ask them, as I am only too happy to help.

See you out there,

Kieran.
