The Formatt Hitech Firecrest 85mm filter holder is a simply stunning system and is without doubt one of the best 85mm filter holders out there.

It’s perfect if you are using a cropped sensor camera either an APS-C camera from Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Sony etc… or a Micro Four thirds cameras from Panasonic or Olympus. These compact cameras fit beautifully with the 85mm Firecrest filter holder and they complement each other well.

So the first question you need to ask yourself is why 85mm? 

Well 75mm is too small as Lee discovered and it’s why they changed from the sevens system to their 85mm system which by the way is ok but it’s nowhere even as good as this Firecrest filter holder. You will get vignetting on certain lenses at 75mm which will work perfectly on the 85mm system. There is very little physical difference between the 75mm and 85mm systems both weight wise and size wise when they are in your bag but to your camera they are worlds apart.
So the 85mm holder is still compact light and works without vignetting on a lot more lenses for crop sensor cameras. That’s why you should buy the Firecrest 85mm system.
